Susan's Shanghai Blog - Week 102 - New Years Eve 2013

Happy New Year! We spent New Years' Eve (again) in Shanghai as Tom had late calls. We headed over to the Riverside Promenade about 11:30 for the New Year's Eve celebration. They don't really tend to do alot here, since in another month we have Chinese New Year, which is the BIG celebration.

However, I must give KUDOs to Shanghai for a GREAT fireworks display! This was one of the best I've seen in many years. I took a few pictures of just the lights along the Bund and tried to get a view of how many people were there. In the first two pictures, you can somewhat see the people packed into the area. They had a screen and a DJ on this side of the river (supposedly also on the Bund side) and on a couple buildings on the Bund, they did a light show (which we saw last year or the year before, and is actually really good although this year we didn't really position ourselves to see it well). You can also see a bunch of yellow ballons, which they let go at the new year (which I also attempted to get a picture of).

Here I won't give any more commentary ..they are all just pictures of the fireworks and an attempt in one picture of getting the yellow balloons rising up in the night sky. Then on the Aurora building, the 2014 and Happy New Year signs.
