Our Blog - Golf National - Before the 2018 Ryder Cup

We picked up all of our "gear" on Sunday and grabbed a couple pictures of the course. It was lightly raining for most of the time that we were there, but it started raining harder once we left. We are hoping that it dries out a bit before the tournament starts.

It was interesting walking around the course. We have played here, when we lived in Paris. This was actually our "home course" for the few times we played while we lived here. They have 2 18-hole courses here, and most of the time, we played the "Eagle" course, which is the easier one. We did play this one, the Albatross, once ... that was enough for us :-) We also had the opportunity to come to the French Open golf a couple times, which is played on the Albatross, and so we remembered quite a few holes. We also got to see a few of the holes from the Eagle course, which is where they have set up a set of tents (including volunteer HQ).

Mind you, the course was setup much differently for this event than when we played it! Some people were comparing it to the TPC Sawgrass golf course in Florida, as for PGA tournaments, it is setup with narrow fairways, really tough rough, and of course, there is water in play. You can also see from these few pictures that most of the holes are played down in a valley between mounds and hills. We heard somewhere that the course was designed this way, specifically to hold tournaments. The spectators can line the hills and it is easier for more people to see. The hills themselves were "created" by dumping construction debris from Paris and then covering it with dirt and grass.
