Our Blog - Biarritz, France

So, almost not worthy of a blog entry, and if you are looking for *real* information on Biarritz, here is a link to our previous Biarritz blog, where we actually walked through the town and saw the sights.

Now, you may be asking yourself why we are in Biarritz at all, if we aren't going to go see anything. Last year at the Ryder Cup, we entered our names into a drawing at one of the travel desks and ... go figure ... WE WON! I almost deleted the email when it came in since, well, almost any email that says you have won anything is spam or a hoax. Anyway, I looked a bit closer and it seemed pretty legit and, sure enough, it WAS legit! So mid-week, we drove to Biarritz (taking in the sights of Tarbes and Lourdes on the drive back and forth). We enjoyed a room at a 5-star hotel and 2 rounds of golf at the golf course (we actually could see the golf course from our hotel window).

We walked over to Saint-Martin, which is a rocky cliff that overlooks the city. The weather was really horrible, as you can tell from the clouds in the picture (at least it wasn't raining!). Here you can see the main beach and large casino, as well as the older part of the city to the right side.

The lighthouse, or Le Phare, was built in 1830 and started guiding mariners in February 1834.

The Hotel Regina, our home-away-from-home for 1 night, perched at the top of the cliff.

We were in Basque Country, so we decided to relax under the lighthouse, sipping an artisanal Basque cider.
