Our Blog - Carnac, France

Carnac is know for its monolithic alignments and beaches, but we didn't actually see either this trip. We went there early one morning to try to see the market but unfortunately, parking was a nightmare. We went back later after the market had ended and walked through the downtown area. Right in the middle of town is the 17th century Saint Cornély's Church, which is dedicated to St Cornély, protector of cattle.

As you tell by the pictures, I really liked the stained glass windows, although I was unable to find much information about them. They were done in the 19th century with the ones in the choir being older than the rest. You can see a difference between the older ones and the newer ones in that the newer ones have a smaller picture in the middle with somewhat of a frame around them.

When the church was built, the framework of the vaults were visible. In 1717, they were covered by wainscoting and decorated with polychrome paneling with paintings representing the life of Saint Cornély.
