Our Blog - Our South Beach Trip in Feb 2020

Many of our friends here in Toulouse had talked about a few towns on the Mediterranean Sea, heading towards Spain and so we decided to take a few days and head down there before Lucy had her sterilization surgery (and had to relax and recuperate for a couple of weeks). Mind you, this is late February and while the weather forecast looked amazing for late February, it isn't quite beach season in France. A set of hotels and restaurants were closed, but we had several choices that were open and so it didn't end up being much of a problem for us. Each section will have their own page, linked below. Some of the pictures were taken on different days in the same city, but we decided to merge them together into a single page for each point of interest.

We wanted to let Lucy experience the beach, especially since we see photos and videos of other Corgi's that seem to love the beach. There is a nice page that lists the Pet-friendly beaches in France by department. All of our beaches were in Langeudoc-Roussillon.

  • First day, we stopped at Mouret Beach in Leucate which is one of the 3 beaches listed there.
  • The second day, we went to Argelès-sur-Mer to the Racou beach, but it was really not very good, and we didn't bother taking any pictures. It seems that they haven't recovered yet from Tempète Gloria, that hit the area in January.
  • The last day, we headed back to Mouret Beach again, since it was a "known quantity".

Needless to say, Lucy truly enjoyed her time on the beach!

We stayed for 2 nights in the seaside town of Collioure, which in addition to being on the water (although the beach was really not that great there), is famous for the creation of Fauvisme by Mattise.

We spent a little bit of time at Fort Saint-Elme, which is perched on a hilltop between Collioure and Port-Vendres, as well as a little bit of time in the fishing village of Port-Vendres.
