Our Blog - Rosporden, France

This history of Rosporden dates back to the 10th century and the name supposedly comes from Preden, the lord who built a feudal motte here. Until the 18th century, it was called Rospreden (slightly different spelling) that would mean "the hill of Preden". He then had a dam constructed to protect his feudal motte, which created the first lake. The town grew in the 14th century with an increase in the trade of wine and grain.

We stopped there quite quickly after a nice long walk with Lucy around the lakes.

On the edge of the lake is the Eglise Notre Dame. It was built in the 14th century on the foundation of an old chapel devoted to Saint Alar and then remodeled in the 16th century. It wasn't open so you only get to see the outside. We find this somewhat normal in small villages where there may not be anyone in the church during the day. since there are historical (and valuable) statues and things inside, normally the town would want someone there at all times when it is open.

We ate lunch at a crepe place and i decided to order the "local drink" called chouchen. It is similar to mead and is made from fermented apple juice and honey. I will admit that I liked the glass much more than I liked the drink.
