Susan's Shanghai Blog - Week 23As we come up to the holidays, Shanghai has started to show its' Christmas Spirit! This week's blog will be just a viewing of various Christmas or holiday lights and displays that we've taken the past couple weeks through Shanghai as we've been out and about. These are taken from the Puxi side of the river, looking back over to Pudong. All the skyscrapers have their lights on for the holidays!
This is the JinMao tower lobby. They have a few really nice displays.
The IFC mall in Pudong. Outside, there are TONS of lights! Lots of blue around all of the shrubs and then pinkish-purple through all of the trees.
Across the street from IFC, you have the Super Brand Mall. On the outside, at each entrance, they have these large Christmas Trees (not full trees, of course) mounted on the front of the columns going into the mall. Then when you get inside, C&A (a European-headed international chain of fashion retail clothing stores) has put up this HUGE tree right in the front lobby. Then as you walk through, they have ornaments hanging from the ceiling in the middle area where they have open areas between the floors.
On the outside of the Super Brand Mall, as you walk around, they have light displays. Some are single animals, like the deer with Tom standing in front, and others are snowflakes and things hanging from the trees.
When you get the what we think of as the "main" entrance, they have a "Christmas Carnival" display up over the name (you can see at the very bottom of the photo, the "Super Brand Mall". And then just around the corner from the main entrance, they have this really big light display for the 2001 Christmas Carnival ... it is really tall ... about 3 stories!
Then as you take the skybridge across the road from the Super Brand Mall over to the IFC Mall, we caught these pictures that shows more of the lights that are outside of that entrance, and the 2nd picture has the Apple Logo of the Apple Store (the white thing in the middle that you can't tell is an apple) with the lit trees circling it.
Then inside the IFC Mall itself, they have little white Christmas trees setup and decorated all over the mall, as well as little decorations up over the directional signs.
Inside the entrance we normally go into the IFC from, the one next to the LV store, they had this huge thing setup. It looked like they were going to have some kind of a fashion show with the models walking up and down the stairs.
Then as we went out the other door, near the DG store, they had this other "stairway" display.
This is waiting from IFC back over to the JinMao Tower. The bridge over the road is new .. they just finished and opened it within the last month or so. More lights!
Up and down Century Avenue, they have the trees light up with green and blue lights. Then in front of the JinMao, they have the trees in blue and the half-wall has been wrapped in white lights as well.
The JLife building, which is attached to JinMao, also was nicely decorated. As you go up the escalator towards the Starbucks (which I go to ALOT!), they have a snowman. The last picture shows Tom again in front of one of the JinMao lobby displays, so we've now come full circle!
The blog may take a break for a week over the holidays, but then we'll be back. We are heading to Hong Kong for the Christmas holidays, so we'll have lots of pictures and info from that trip, then we'll be back in Shanghai for New Year's eve. Looking forward into January, there is Chinese New Year (or the Spring Festival as it is called here, although I've tried to figure out how January and Spring can be used in the same sentance!!) and we also have a long week-end trip to Bangkok, Thailand planned. To all of our family and friends (and those who have stumbled upon this blog and have kept reading it this long) ... we hope everyone has wonderful holidays!! |
