Lucy Blog - Lucy at 16 and 17 monthsToday is Lucy's 17-month birthday and she got to spend it in yet another lockdown in France. She doesn't get to go to puppy recess (so no Romy or Potter) nor go play with her puppy-friends that live more than 2 kilometers from our house (each person can go within a 1km radius). That means no Opie, no Wanda, and no Fox. Sometimes I am always shocked at what odd contortions Lucy gets herself in during her sleeping. I can't believe some of these are comfortable, but she seems to like it. We can tell when she is sleeping deeply as she is on her back. We are also very thankful that she likes her bed, which is placed under our desk in the living room, as much as she does.
I mentioned that she doesn't get to go to puppy recess, but we have been able to go into the park behind our apartment and meet up with various dogs there. Unlike puppy recess, where the dogs are separated by size, she gets to meet up with all kinds of dogs, large and small. There are a few that we regularly meet up with as they tend to take their walks at the same time each morning as we do, and come through one part of the park where we let them run a little bit (if there are no park police nearby). One of the things that we do in that area is throw a ball with her. In this first video, you can see that she is not really a retriever! She chases the ball and picks it up, and sometimes she comes back with it (the first part of the video) and sometimes she then drops it and goes off doing other things, or comes back without the ball (last part of the video).
For her birthday this morning, she got to play with a German Shepherd. The dog is 6 years old and his master had said that he normally doesn't run around. Lucy has met up with her a few times before today and they seem to play together well although normally, the German Shepherd doesn't move all that much. This morning, it was a bit different. There were several dogs there and the German Shepherd seemed to play a bit more, even running around a little bit.
The video is great, Tom did a good job getting this one. You can see a couple other dogs that are popping in and out of the frame along with Lucy and the German Shepherd. One of them is a 4-month old Spaniel and what looks to be a Golden Lab (maybe). The Spaniel is also another puppy that Lucy has played with before and they run a lot together. The Golden was new today although supposedly the Lab knows the German Shepherd from evening walks with the husband of the lady who was there with the German Shepherd. She mentioned that we had quite an international group this morning ... we being American, the German Shepherd "mom" being French, and the Spaniel "mom" being Spanish!
Now I'll go back-in-time to 16 months, since I forgot to post these last month. They were before lockdown, so the majority of them are from her last puppy recess. If you have been following her blog, you will recognize the little Beagle (Romy) and the brown Jack Russell/Pinscher mix (Potter). The other dog in the pictures is a Australian Shepard that was new that week (the fuzzy light-brown one). As normal, Romy is down on the ground and Potter and Lucy are playing a little rough. The little Australian I think wasn't quite sure what to think about it all!
Here we see Lucy getting back a little at Potter with a little puff-ball dog starting to peek in from the left, all decked-out in a little rain suit.
Just before the lockdown started, we had taken a little vacation and on the way back, Lucy decided to get comfy on the bed at our Chambre d'Hote (a Bed & Breakfast).
