Our Blog - Mouret Beach, Leucate (the 2nd time)

After the less-than-stellar Racou beach, we headed back to Mouret Beach on our way home. I mentioned that Racou beach didn't fare well with a huge storm in January. It was called Gloria, and it killed 3 people in Spain before hitting this area. The Racou district of Argelès-sur-Mer is located in a cove between the beach and the rocky coast, which makes it particularly exposed to violent waves. During the storm, the water level rose so that the entire beach was under water, and the waves pushed sand up into the houses. We could see that when we were there ... some of the houses still had sand piled up basically to the middle of the windows, covering the entire back patio. Many of the houses were still closed up ... we assume they are holiday-homes for people who come down for the summer break and they haven't yet come down to clean up the damage.

So back to the beach the last day ... and this time just a few pictures .... Again, Lucy really enjoyed herself out on the sand! She loved to roll and dig into the sand, and you can see from the pictures .... she has sand all over in her face and mouth.

And after running on the beach for almost an hour, and waiting while we went back and had another round of fresh oysters (12 of the small ones this time), she decided to try to catch some ZZZ's on the way home. She isn't yet all that comfortable in the back seat ... she only napped for about 30 minutes of the 2.5 hour trip home .... we keep experimenting with how to make her comfortable. This time we tried towels, but we doesn't seem to like the texture of them to sleep on. Next time, we'll take her cushy bed and prop it into the corner and try that one.
