Our Blog - Bretagne Trip - Summer 2021 - Lucy's walkSometimes I don't actually know where our walks were, since sometimes they were just parts of longer walks that are marked with yellow or red directions. The French really like to do walking and hiking, and there is an organization called the FFRandonnée (French Federation for walking/hiking (randonnées). Within France, there are over 200,000 kilometers of marked trails under 3 main labels: GR, GR de Pays, and PR. The GR is a long-distance hiking trail and it could cross geographical boundries, while the GR de Pays remain within the same geographical entity. Both of these, in general, are multiple days. The PR is a short walking or hiking route which lasts no more than 1 day. There are also walks that an individual town will have documented, starting at their Office of Tourism for example, and is a little loop around the countryside of the town. In this case, it was a little walk that took us through some woods and near a few fields, passing by a really nice ancient fountain. It dates back to 1769 (based on the date carved in the stone) and it is fed by a local spring. It is sometimes odd to be walking on a little path, passing between corn fields, and then you come across something from the 18th century!
