Our Blog - Lucy's June

As summer arrives, we do more water activites with Lucy. Swimming is good exercise and it allows her to cool off. She likes to go swimming (or at least wading) in the small lake in the park behind our apartment to cool off after playing with the ball and running around with the other puppies in the morning. We also will take her there in the late afternoon to cool off in the summer when it is just too hot to do much else.

Canipaddle session #1

Our puppy-school does quite a few activities in the summer, including sessions of paddleboard with the dogs. This year is in a different lake than last year because the lake from last year has been closed to swimming due to an outbreak of blue algae, which is dangerous for humans and toxic for dogs. Each week, they have to contact the mayor's office of the town that the lake is in to confirm that the tests were okay and that the water is safe. This is from our first paddleboard session of this summer. Interestingly enough, it was quite chilly and rained for a time during the session, as you can tell from the last picture here. She was a bit more relaxed on the board this year but also enjoyed just swimming.

June Corgi Meet-up

Our "corgi group" has been trying to get together at least once a month and June saw us trying out a new location. This one, in my opinion, is the best one so far for the summer months. Lucy is probably the oldest one there but this time, she was playing with the others more than normal. Maybe she is getting used to these dogs ... don't know.

One of the nice things about here is there is a small canal with water running through it. While there is a current, it isn't enough that I am worried about Lucy having problems swimming in it. And since it is running water, it is quite clean and will have less issues with algae than the still water in a lake. Here you can see the puppies enjoying the water. In the 2nd video, you can see Lucy going out quite a bit and getting caught a little in the current. I was ready to run into the water to save her, but she battled through it and got back to the entrance.

Canipaddle session #2

Our 2nd canipaddle session was sunny and warm, and Lucy was less interested in staying on the board. At one point, she jumped off the board 1/2 way out into the lake and swam all the way back to shore. Perhaps she was a bit distracted with some of the other dogs that were there. Mind you, I used "jump" when it was more of a "dive" :-)

At one point, Lucy decided to jump on the paddleboard with Tine and her buddy Maiko (the Pomeranian)
