Our Blog - Lucy Blog Update - July 2023

This is just a miscellaneous blog update for Lucy and what she's been doing lately. Some of these have already been posted on the main blog, but I'll add them here for completeness.

We've done 2 sessions of "CaniPaddle", which is stand-up paddle board with a dog. Mind you, I never stood up during these 2 sessions, but this was also my first time on a paddle board, let alone with a dog on a paddle board. During her First CaniPaddle session, neither of us were that comfortable on the board. By the Second CaniPaddle session, we were both doing much better and I was able to go out into the lake quite a bit.

Our puppy school had a special event one of the weekends that we didn't want to participate in (since it was mostly Dock Diving, which Lucy doesn't do). Instead, our mini toutou group did a Walk in the Garonne that day, and Lucy had a great time playing in the water with her friends.

Sometimes we joke about how Lucy sleeps and "where" she sleeps. She tends to move around the apartment in different places and different positions throughout the day. Sometimes, we think she sleeps on the couch like a little person, as she prefers to sleep with her head up on the padding. Other times, she has her head on the padding-edge of her bed. We can tell she is sleeping really well when she is on her back. And then within her crate, she does what we call "holding up the wall", since she is on her side with her paws up against the mesh on the side of the crate.

She also has gotten lots of play in the park behind our apartment. Every morning, there are a set of dogs that meet at the same place. Not every dog is there every morning, since we aren't there on the mornings that we are out of town, or when we do our market shopping in the morning. She has a set of dogs that she plays with, and others that she basically ignores. One of the ones she plays with is a pug named Athena. It is actually somewhat funny ... she plays on her back when she gets tired.

This one is with a Pomsky (a cross between a Siberian Husky with a Pomeranian) named Harry, who is named after Harry Potter. Don't turn your screen ... it straightens up quickly :-)

We like to find good places to take walks with her, and this one is also along the Garonne river, but on the other side from where the mini toutous walked. There is a park near the Blagnac airport where we went for a walk and found a little pond where she could swim a little. Of course, one of her favorite pastimes after going into the water is rolling around in the sand!

We continue to her Lucy do her agility course each week, although she will take time off during our vacation. Here we tried to get a good picture of her in the tunnel, which is probably her favorite apparatus.

And while we don't get them very often, she had a perfect run at the agility course!

And then we have the runs on the course where she isn't quite perfect. In this case, it was TOTALLY the fault of the human, not the puppy! And it is really obvious when you are not the one running the course, but watching from the sidelines. I get done and Tom says "what were you thinking .... you were WAY too far away from that 3rd tunnel for her to go into it, she just followed you!"

Other dogs at the park regularly include another Corgi named Fidji (this is how the French spell the island of Fiji) and Titus (pronounced Tee-tus) who is a little Jack Russell. Sometimes it is hilarious when they all get playing together.

The most recent addition to the park-puppies is a Canadian corgi named Patrick. His "parents" are here to help a grandparent (I think is what they said). While it is totally common in the US, it is weird to see a corgi without a tail (since docking of tails is illegal in the EU). They must be staying pretty close to us since in a 24-hour period, we saw them in the park, at one of our favorite coffee places, and outside of the shopping center. It seems Patrick doesn't like to go in water, so he just waited at the edge while Lucy took a little swim.
