Living in Shanghai, China

We lived in Shanghai, China, for a total of 3 years (started as 2, got extended to 3). During that time, I kept a "blog" to talk about general life things, as well as to share our various vacations. With the restructuring of our web site, I have split out the vacations into the City Archives from the main page, and the rest of the blog "weeks" remain here. Within these pages, you'll find miscellaneous things including walking tours of the city, pictures of various areas within the city, as well as just Susan rambling about things related to moving and living in a new place and different culture.

I've included our Shanghai apartment here, but it is also on the main web site page under the Personal Info section. As with moving to any major city, we had to seriously downsize. The good thing is that we didn't take any of our furniture and so we weren't trying to shove a 4-bedroom house into a 1-bedroom apartment with an office.

One of the more unique things is that we lived directly across the street from the construction site of the Shanghai Tower, which is a 128-story skyscraper. As of 2015, it was the world's tallest building, by height to highest usable floor (Level 127, 587.4 m). It also has the world's highest observation deck within a building or structure (Level 121, 561.25 m), and the world's fastest elevators at a top speed of 20.5 m/s. It is the world's second-tallest building by height to architectural top (behind Dubai's Burj Khalifa, 828 m) and the world's third-tallest structure (behind Tokyo Skytree, 634 m). Each month, we took pictures to follow the progress of the construction, up until we left China (it wasn't quite finished).
